Chickens choose in food stuff with their beaks, by pecking feed, grains, insects, together with other morsels into their mouths. This food stuff then travels down the esophagus, with the help of a bit saliva and digestive enzymes. From right here it would make its way to the crop, which is largely a storage compartment at the base of the esophagus
